Neck Pain and Dizziness

Do You Suffer From Neck Pain and Dizziness? Here’s What You Need to Know

Comparison of outcomes in neck pain patients with and without dizziness undergoing chiropractic treatment: a prospective cohort study with 6 month follow-up

Do you suffer from neck pain and dizziness? If you answered yes to this question, here’s what you need to know.

To start off, it’s pretty safe to say that at one point or another in our lives we’ve experienced dizziness or have had neck pain. However, there are times when these symptoms can be overwhelming and often coupled together causing distress in our day-to-day lives (even with the smallest of tasks!).

In a clinical study in Switzerland, several scientists and chiropractors decided to see the the outcome in neck pain patients with and without dizziness undergoing chiropractic treatment over the course of a 6-month period.

Here’s what they found:

  • Patients with dizziness were noted to have significantly higher levels of physical pain, anxiety and depression in comparison with those who didn’t experience dizziness.
  • Statistically, women are more likely to suffer neck pain and dizziness in comparison to men.
  • Over the course of the 1, 3, and 6-month assessment periods, it was noted that neck pain patients with and without dizziness reported to have clinically relevant improvement.
  • Over 80% of patients with dizziness reported that their symptoms improved over the course of the 6-month period.

So, now you may be asking yourself “why is this important?” or “why should I care?” Well, there are a couple of reasons for that. The study shows that continuous chiropractic treatment was effective to those who suffer from neck pain with/without dizziness and that treatment demonstrated clinically significant improvement over time in several areas of functioning including depression, anxiety and pain. Another reason is that if you seek chiropractic treatment for your pain earlier, you can prevent the injury from getting worse and more painful.
